PROJECT NOTES FROM LORRIE GAUTHIER: Here’s a bit about how I made my wreath. I wanted to use some of the scraps that I have been saving of some of my favorite fabrics and this was the perfect time to do that! I bought a grapevine wreath and cut out a rough outline of it from green fabric and machine appliqued it to a piece of tone on tone Christmas fabric. Then I stippled the green wreath down (I'm still learning how to do this) and used one of the Needle Passion Embroidery machine quilting designs from the CD in the centre (tone on tone on bottom cut 1" larger than top and quilt batting in middle) You can't really see it because it's the same color as the background. I pulled the corner backing away from the top layer and batting and appliqued a different design in each corner of the quilt. I hooped tear-away stabilizer and pinned the batting and top on to that making sure I left lots of room for the machine to stitch the design. I used Natesh thread on all four corner designs and nothing else. Even the flame was done with the variegated thread. I then self bound the edges using the extra 1" from the backing turned under and stitched down on the front. Attach the grapevine wreath to the fabric. For the ornaments I hooped tear-away, stuck green felt down with adhesive spray, stitched the designs and glued another piece of green felt on the back. After it dried I cut around the appliques, punched a hole in the top and hung them with green ribbon. This wreath could be used on it's own without the quilt backing. The snowman was done with two layers of quilt batting to make him fat and fuzzy. The teddy bear was done with brown felt and the igloo had a piece of quilt batting put on the felt and then white fabric placed on top then appliqued down. The four corner designs look fat because they have the quilt batting under them. Regards, Lorrie Gauthier lorrie@freedomcomputing.com http://www.eatdessertfirst.com
