Project Notes - Pedesign V 4.0 used I used spray starch to add stability on all fabric used for appliqué, then spray adhesive to attach to background fabric. Everyone Welcome Church Applique Border print is Hoffman - "Vermont Lodge", probably not available - it's a few years old. I used Black Chancery true type font. On the vertical word - welcome I used text attribute to line it up. **************************************** God Bless America Angel Applique Border print is a feed sack reproduction print, still available. I used Black Chancery true type font for the words. Also used text attribute to line up vertical word America. **************************************** Happy Holidays Poinsettia Applique Border print is Hoffman "Woodland Winter", probably not available - it's a few years old. Font #30 in Pedesign used for words - text transformation to arch Happy, and text attribute to line up vertical word Holidays. ***************************************** Let It Snow Snowman Applique Border print is Marcus Brothers - sprinkled with silver glitter - a variety of different snowmen, mittens, hearts, Snow Ice Cream Recipe, words (let it snow, flakes show...snow...snow, cold hands warm heart, 'Snow flakes for sale' etc.) background is white with very pale blue and white snowflakes - probably not visible - fabric for snowman is white with silver glitter, probably not visible. IF using white fabric for snowman this would show up better on a colored background. Font #30 used for "Let It Snow". Not sure the "fringe" tassel shows on snowman hat. ******************************************** The Greatest Is Love Gift Applique Background is green marbled, applique is red marbled. Border print is VIP, that's all that was visible. :-( Probably not available. Old!!!! ******************************************** "Mine and Yours" appliqué stockings. Background fabric is tone on tone, border fabric is Moda - "For the Holidays" - No longer available. It has assorted colored ornaments and stars sprinkled over a red marbled background - ornaments and stars are embellished with gold around the edges. I have more projects in mind IF I don't get interrupted. ******************************************** Project notes for Appliqué Mitten Hot Pad. To be used under hot dishes. Emb design on pre-quilted fabric. Square up design to approximately 10 inches, you can trim it down later if it's too large. Cut two 14 1/2 inch squares of contrast fabric (something that matches your emb design) - scrap fabric can be used for 2nd square, it will be on the inside and won't show. Draw a circle on wrong side of one of the squares, it should be approximately 1/2 inch smaller than the square (mine was 14 inches) Any round item that is the correct measurement is good to make a circle. Place right sides together and stitch on circle outline. Trim excess fabric to 1/4 inch of stitching line. Clip curves. Cut a 3 inch slit in ONE LAYER OF circle, this is used to turn fabric to right sides. Use wooden dowel to poke out circle seams, press edges. Make sure slit is on the inside, center emb design on circle. Use square sides of emb design as fold guides, fold rounded edges of circle onto the square emb design. Press. Stitch on curved edges. You will end up with a square hot pad that resembles a Cathedral Window Design. IF pre-quilted fabric isn't thick enough, old wash clothes or towels make great pads. Instructions for Borders and Backing. I used Brother 8200 emb machine, jumbo - 3 position hoop - to embroidery long wall hangings, version 4.0 of Pedesign to line up designs, and create words. I hooped Stitch and Tear Stabilizer for jumbo hoop designs, marked vertical and horizontal centers. I folded my background on vertical and horizontal to locate center. Used spray adhesive to attach appliqué fabric to stabilizer. After emb is finished, "square up" the background before adding borders. I used 3 inch strips for the borders, and "quilters fleece" for batting (a very light weight pelon type backing) found at Walmart. The batting was cut one inch larger than the front of wall hanging. After centering the design on the batting, I pinned both pieces together, make sure fleece is on WRONG SIDE of project. To anchor the batting and top, I stitched in the ditch (on the right side) in the seam that joins the borders to the background. I also stitched 1/4 inch from the edge to anchor the batting to the sides. After stitching 1/4 inch from the edge, I trimmed the quilters fleece right up to the edge of stitching to elimate bulk in the seam. I cut backing one inch larger than the top, pinned right sides together, stitched all the way around leaving a 3 inch opening to turn project. Be sure and trim excess backing (I trimmed to 1/4 inch seam) also trim corners before turning to right side. I used a pointed wooded dowel to "poke out" the corners. Press completely around the edges, stitched in the ditch AGAIN on the RIGHT SIDE - to anchor top to BACKING, and top stitched 1/4 inch from edge to give the appearance of binding. Almost forgot, I added a 2 1/2 (finished) sleeve to the backing BEFORE attaching. Be very careful when you do this, it will require accurate measuring!!!!! or you will mess up!!!! You might end up with the sleeve at the bottom instead of the top. Ask me how I know. :-) Submitted by Doris Sammons Elizabethton, Tennessee (iqltdou@usit.net)
